Join Newlands & Auldhouse Community Council: Nominations Now Open!
Are you passionate about making a difference in your local community? Do you want to have a say in the decisions that affect Newlands & Auldhouse? Now is your chance! Nominations are currently being invited for residents who are 16 years or older to join the Newlands & Auldhouse Community Council.
1. Qualification
To stand for election, you must be:
Over 16 years of age.
A resident within the Newlands & Auldhouse Community Council boundary area.
All that's required to qualify is that your name, along with those of your proposer and seconders, appear on the Electoral Register. If your name isn’t on the Electoral Register, don’t worry—there’s an alternative way to qualify. Simply contact the Independent Returning Officer for assistance.
2. Vacancies
There are 12 vacancies available on the Newlands & Auldhouse Community Council. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in shaping the future of your community. Whether you’re interested in local planning, community events, or addressing neighborhood concerns, your voice can make a difference.
3. Closing Date
Time is of the essence! Completed nomination forms must be submitted to Glasgow City Council by 05/09/2024. Don’t miss out on this chance to represent your community and contribute to making Newlands & Auldhouse an even better place to live.
4. Filling Vacancies
The process for filling these vacancies depends on the number of nominations received:
Uncontested Election Meeting: If 12 or fewer nominations are submitted to Glasgow City Council, the valid candidates will be elected unopposed. This meeting will take place on 03/10/2024 at 19:00 in Scout Hall, 147 Mossgiel Road, Glasgow, G43 2BY.
Contested Election – Secret Ballot: If more than 12 valid nominations are submitted by 05/09/2024, a secret ballot will be held on a date to be confirmed. The ballot will also take place at Scout Hall, 147 Mossgiel Road, Glasgow, G43 2BY. Qualifying residents will be entitled to cast up to 12 votes during the ballot opening hours, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. A list of candidates will be publicly advertised before the secret ballot, and the results will be confirmed at the next scheduled community council meeting.
To participate in the election, whether as a candidate or a voter, your name and address must appear on the Electoral Register, or be confirmed through alternative measures as outlined in the qualification section above.
